Théâtre d'un Jour
Disciplines
LINKED BY MUSIC AND VISUAL ARTS, T1J'S CREATIONS FOCUS ON THE SAME QUESTION: WHAT IS THE ROLE OF MAN IN THIS WORLD?
The troupe was born in 1994 and celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2015.
Since 2008, "Theatre of a Day" has been passionately supporting "creation art". The troupe has consistently utilized transdisciplinarity with a constant desire to question what is real. Its inquiries are centered on everyone's place in the "society".
Given the extreme diversity and complexity of our world, I believe that merging and confronting different disciplines and practitioners is an increasingly credible approach to undertake an artistic work.
Therefore, a significant amount of work directed towards resistance and even struggle gives full meaning to our current project.
Jan Goosens emphasized this very well when he paid tribute to Gerard Mortier: "Being suspicious of great cultural bastions is easier than rebuilding them. Artistic adventures without ambition and socio-political are nothing but vanity. A love-hate relationship with your own field of activity provides you with the best guarantee ever: you gain a lifelong sense of vigilance. These are lessons you will remember forever".
Otherwise, it seems obvious that a brand new production and distribution formula is about to emerge very soon. It's up to us to invent it, master it, develop it and share it with the world. Today's concept of creation is broader and more essential than a mere room where repetition and desire meet.
We believe that the role of the artist has never been to be shackled by the world and its numerous transformations. We rather think that he has to foresee them and anticipate them. The speed imposed on us by Wall Street and the Internet is nothing compared to our power of creation and invention. Just like in martial arts, we have to take this energy and use it to our advantage.
T1J is currently working towards this goal.
