Curious Collective (formerly Carré Curieux, Living Circus!) is one of the emblematic companies in the landscape of the current Belgian circus.
It was upon graduating from ESAC (Higher School of Circus Arts of Brussels) in 2007, that Luca Aeschlimann, Vladimir Couprie, Gert De Cooman, and Kenzo Tokuoka founded the Company Carré Curieux, Living Circus! It quickly became emblematic in the landscape of the current Belgian circus and gained international fame by touring all over the world, whether under a big top, indoors, on the street, and even in churches.
After 15 years of existence, the company evolved and wanted to change its operation. Still dedicated to circus creation, it wishes to open up to new encounters and artistic complicity. This is how Carré Curieux, Living Circus! transformed into Curious Collective.
Vladimir Couprie and Pedro Miguel Silva now occupy the general direction, Thomas Dechaufour, Gert De Cooman, and Gianna Sutterlet join them for the artistic direction, while Elana Rillh is in charge of administration. This core is set to expand gradually.
In this creation house, with variable geometry, they gather their experiences, their knowledge, and techniques to propose original circus works that transcend forms and aesthetics, with always this main concern: to offer emotions to their audiences.
Exploring the diversity of circus techniques; through research and blends, moving away from what is expected to slide simply towards innovation, these are the springs of creation of the Curious Collective.
The time is for collective listening, mutual aid, and sharing of experiences.
The identity of the collective is built in the diversity of the projects it proposes and will propose, as well as in those who carry them. Each project carrier will work in a creative freedom all the stronger as they can rely on the advice and means brought by the other members of the collective. The action as the expertise of the Curious Collective extends to everything that is essential and unseen, to everything that makes the life of a living work, such as administration, communication, production, distribution, technique, as well as the pooling of resources.
For a few years now, the circus arts have gained a new diverse and colorful audience. And it's no coincidence, as they offer a privileged ground to accept differences and respect individualities. Values that the Curious Collective claims, shares, and sows.
