Silvia Pezzarossi

Disciplines

An Italian dancer and choreographer who has been based in Brussels for twelve years, Silvia trained in ballet in Italy, then in contemporary dance at the Ballet Junior de Genève and at the Modem/Cie Zappalà Danza professional school (Sicily).

In Belgium, Silvia works as a dancer and performer with choreographer Lies Serdons, the Poetic Punkers collective, the Marie Martinez Company, and more recently with the contemporary circus company Les Chaussons Rouges. Abroad, she has danced for Keren Rosenberg, Roy Assaf and Roberto Zappalà.

Since 2013, Silvia has been creating her own choreographic work: Mucyclo (2014), Waiting For the Fishes (2016) and En attendant que les poissons passent... (2018).

A passionate observer of society, her creations explore human behaviour and its dynamics. Particular attention is paid to energy—frank and spontaneous—which shifts between explosive moments and those that are at times more intimate and poetic. Her works are supported by the Wallonia-Brussels Federation and tour Belgium, France, Greece, Turkey and Italy.

Habemus Naufragium (2024), her fourth project, has been selected by the Théâtre des Doms (Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles) to form part of the Belgian selection presented at the 2025 Avignon Festival.

Silvia is currently beginning research for a new group production, which she plans for 2027.

Habemus Naufragium

2024

Faced with the urgent need to adapt to a constantly changing environment, two beings struggle for survival until they mutate into improbable, fantastical forms and identities.

At times united in a fusion of bodies, at others driven by the urgent need to pull away, they also seek a return to their own animal nature.

Bold and reckless, mirroring the challenges they face, they try… they take risks… they fail… Their evolutionary journey suggests that unity and mutual aid are the keys to their survival.

As they tear away, layer by layer, the thick shells that a frenetic society has stuck to their skin, their bodies unite and metamorphose into a mysterious sea creature.

Calm returns; with long, slender, hypnotic movements, the creature moves forward in perfect harmony with the roaring ocean that surrounds it... but for how long? Have we not learnt to be wary of mirages?
